A 45-year-old scooter driver was killed in an east valley crash early Sunday morning Las Vegas police said.
Michael Jay Miner, 45, who was identified by the Clark County coroner’s office, died at the scene, police wrote in a release.
Officers responded just before 4 a.m. to East Owens Avenue, at North Linn Lane, where a 2008 Jonway scooter collided with a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, police said.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate that an unregistered scooter driven by Miner northbound on Linn and a Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Owens entered the intersection at the same time.
The front of the Jeep struck the right side of the scooter, causing the scooter to turn over, Metro wrote in the release. Miner was thrown to the side of the road.
The driver of the Jeep, a 22-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene, the release said.
This was the 36th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
