Smoke alarm grounds Chicago-bound flight in Las Vegas

A Chicago-bound commercial flight made an unplanned landing in Las Vegas on Tuesday after a bathroom smoke alarm went off.

United Airlines Flight 1234, carrying 170 passengers and flight crew members from Los Angeles International Airport to O’Hare International Airport, landed at McCarran International Airport shortly after the alarm sounded at 10:24 a.m.

The alert ended just after the traffic control tower was notified, but pilots grounded the plane in Las Vegas as a precaution, according to McCarran spokeswoman Christine Crews.

The flight landed safely at 10:41 a.m. and the Clark County Fire Department said everything is OK at 10:46 a.m., Crews said.

The flight finished its route to Chicago just before 3 p.m.
