Smoke smell causes airliner to make emergency landing at McCarran

An American Airlines flight heading from Los Angeles to New York made an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon at McCarran International Airport.

Flight 256 landed without incident after crew reported the smell of smoke, airport spokeswoman Christine Crews said.

The flight, with 89 people on board, touched down in Las Vegas at 3:18 p.m., Crews said. The Clark County Fire Department checked and cleared the Airbus A321 aircraft.

By about 4 p.m. the flight was ready to take off again, Crews said.
