Street racers crash in Sunrise Mountain High School field

One person was in custody Monday after what police suspect as street racing led to a two-vehicle crash that ended on a Sunrise Mountain High School athletics field early Monday.

It happened about 6 a.m., near the intersection of Carey Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, according to Metro.

A light blue Ford Mustang crashed through a fence bordering the field and came to rest at the back wall of a baseball dugout. A black Chevrolet Camaro went through the same fence about 100 feet east of the Mustang and turned onto its side on the field.

Tracy Luna and Abraham Nuno, both 24, were in the Mustang and fled on foot, leaving the driver of the Camaro, Jacob Sandoval, 29, of Las Vegas, critically injured and the crashed cars on the field, according to police. Sandoval was taken to University Medical Center.

Metro spokesman Officer Larry Hadfield said Monday afternoon he did not have the name of the person who was in custody or what charges that person might face.
