Suspect still at large in fatal shooting near Rancho and Charleston

One of two ski mask-wearing intruders who tried to rob a medical office Wednesday evening remains at large, Las Vegas police said.

Though the man escaped, his alleged accomplice, a woman, died after a medical office employee shot at them with a personal handgun, police said Thursday.

Both suspects were wounded at the office, 2801 W. Charleston Blvd., near the intersection of Rancho Drive. The woman later died at University Medical Center, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said.

The man, who left a trail of blood, was on the run as of late Thursday night.

Emergency crews were sent to the scene at about 7:15 p.m., police said, after the robbers had forced their way into the office and held a patient, a doctor and another employee at gunpoint while they asked for money, McGrath said. The man was armed, and the pair may have also been seeking narcotics, police said.

At some point a doctor was pistol-whipped, and the other employee was able to run to his vehicle, get the handgun and confront the pair as they fled through stairs, McGrath said. It wasn't immediately clear what happened next, but the man fired rounds at the pair, fatally striking the woman and wounding the man.

The woman may have been a former patient, McGrath said, noting medical records needed to be examined before that could be confirmed.

This was the 126th homicide investigation of 2015 in Metro's jurisdiction.
