Texas man arrested in LV in connection with mother’s death

A 31-year-old Texas man wanted in connection with his mother's death was arrested Friday in Las Vegas, the U.S. Marshals Service announced Monday.

Police in Collinsville, Texas, were looking for Garth Adam Claytor in connection with the death of his mother, 58-year-old Sheila Claytor, who was found dead Thursday morning in the her home, Collinsville Police Chief Randy Roach said.

Sheila Claytor's neighbor went to the police department, which oversees a community of about 1,700 people about 65 miles north of Dallas, around 11 a.m. Thursday. She told Roach a friend of Sheila Claytor's hadn't heard from her for two days and believed Garth Claytor might have killed her.

Officers went to the home where Sheila and Garth Claytor lived alone and found the woman's body in one of the bedrooms, Roach said.

"It's kind of murky at this point," Roach said Monday afternoon. The police department's investigation is ongoing and the medical examiner's report with details about how Sheila Claytor died has not been released yet, he said.

Roach wouldn't say how police knew where Garth Claytor was, but said Texas officials contacted the Marshals Service and discovered he had fled to Las Vegas.

He was arrested in the area of Rainbow and Charleston boulevards Friday and booked into Clark County Detention Center where he awaits extradition to Texas.
