Tour bus strikes, kills bicyclist in western Las Vegas

Updated April 18, 2017 - 4:38 pm

A 51-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a tour bus Tuesday morning near Red Rock Resort.

The crash happened just before 10:35 a.m. near the intersection of South Pavilion Center Drive and West Griffith Peak Drive, near Charleston Boulevard, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

Police said the bicyclist was taken to University Medical Center’s trauma unit; he died there shortly afterward.

Evidence at the scene showed the Motor Coach Industries Inc. bus was traveling south in the bike lane when the cyclist lost control and struck the bus, Metro said in a statement.

The bus’s driver pulled over to the side of the road and remained at the scene. He showed no signs of impairment, police said.

This death marks the 39th traffic-related fatality investigated by Metro in 2017.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the bicyclist after his family has been notified.
