Tractor on gas line leads to partial closure of Henderson street

The southbound side of a Henderson street is closed after a construction tractor rolled onto a gas line, according to Henderson officials.

The tractor was being used for construction about 2:30 p.m. on Stephanie Street, near American Pacific Drive, when it rolled off the lip of the road and onto a gas line, Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said Wednesday.

A crane is being used to lift the tractor off of the line instead of risking further damage by having the tractor drive off of the pipe, Richards said.

Southbound Stephanie Street, between American Pacific and Wigwam Parkway, is expected to be closed until about 6 p.m. while construction crews work to remove the tractor.

Several businesses in the area, including Panda Express and El Pollo Loco, self-evacuated as a precaution while repairs were made to the line. An estimated time for when the businesses would reopen was not immediately available.

Traffic on northbound Stephanie is not affected, Richards said.
