Utah climber, 50, dies in accident at Zion National Park

A 50-year-old Utah man died in a canyoneering accident in Zion National Park on Friday.

The man, identified by park officials as Christian Louis Johnson, was found dead about 7:20 p.m. by a search and rescue team in Not Imlay Canyon, a park release said Saturday.

Johnson was hiking the side canyon of Imlay Canyon with his husband and two other people, when the accident happened on the first rappel, the release said.

The couple, from Saint George, Utah, had been canyoneering together since 2010, and this was their second visit to Not Imlay.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office and Zion National Park are investigating the death.
