Wave goodbye to Red Rock campground for the summer

With the heat on the way, Red Rock Campground is about to shut down for the summer.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area’s only campground, two miles from the visitor center on West Charleston Boulevard, will be closed May 27 to August 29, according to the Bureau of Land Management. The season — between Memorial Day and Labor Day — is what the BLM calls a “low-usage period.”

Backcountry camping is still allowed, with a permit.

Other nearby camping options include Valley of Fire State Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
