Woman fatally struck by pickup truck in northwest Las Vegas

Updated March 11, 2017 - 9:04 pm

A woman was fatally struck by a car while exiting a northwest Las Vegas Valley shopping center Saturday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., the pedestrian was hit by a 2008 Dodge Ram on the 7200 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard. She died at the scene, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Grant Rogers said.

The Dodge’s 60-year-old driver was making a right turn onto Lake Mead Boulevard out of a shopping center when the crash happened, Rogers said. While the driver was looking “to the left for a clear break in traffic,” he accelerated out of the parking lot and ran over the woman who was on the sidewalk in front of his truck.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police, Rogers said. He did not show any signs of impairment.

This is the 25th traffic-related death investigated by Metro in 2017.
