4.5 magnitude quake shakes remote area of Northern Nevada

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake rattled a remote area where Nevada, California and Oregon meet Thursday morning.
No damage was reported.
The epicenter of the temblor, reported shortly after 1 a.m., was about 200 miles north of Reno and 40 miles southeast of Lakeview, Ore., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Seven smaller quakes, ranging between 2.5 and 3.8 in magnitude, followed the original quake, U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist John Bellini said.
Earthquake swarms have shaken the area, which is mostly high desert with some agriculture, in the past few months.
Thursday’s 4.5 quake was the largest reported in at least 30 days, Bellini said. Seismic activity in the area is natural, as it is in most of Nevada.
Only four people reported the quake via the Geological Survey website, Bellini said. That mostly likely means people in the area didn’t even feel it.
