Missing hiker in Red Rock Canyon found

A woman lost at Red Rock Canyon early Saturday afternoon was found later in the evening, according to police.

About 6:30 p.m., Metro’s Search and Rescue located the woman, 63, who was separated from two companions near the Red Rock recreation center early Saturday afternoon. She was uninjured, and was escorted to her car.

Earlier in the afternoon, about 1:30 p.m., police responded to a call from the two people hiking with the woman, saying they had lost and couldn’t find her.

The woman was hiking on Scenic Loop Drive in Red Rock Canyon when she likely veered onto a trail and was separated from her companions, police spokesman Lt. Erik Lloyd said.

Metro’s Search & Rescue Unit sent a helicopter to search for the woman Saturday afternoon, but was unable to find her after two hours.

The unit began a ground search at around 6:00 p.m., and found the woman about 30 minutes later.
