YuXiang Korean Chinese part of plaza’s eatery trend

Rainbow Robindale Plaza south of Interstate 215 has had quite a few Asian restaurants open in the past couple of years. YuXiang Korean Chinese Cuisine is the latest.

YuXiang joins Soyo Korean Barstaurant, Oyshi Sushi, Goong Korean BBQ Restaurant, Loftti Cafe and Omoide Noodles & Bowls in a plaza otherwise filled with salons and medical offices.

It’s not a secret that the southwest valley’s growth is appealing to restaurant owners, with streets boasting growing traffic counts and high visibility. Restaurateur David Sim has tapped into that: He owns all of the establishments mentioned above.

Sim hasn’t strayed far from the plaza, with the exception of The Sparklings a mile south and a second Oyshi location on West Sahara Avenue.

The YuXiang menu features variations on Korean classics such as jjajangmyeon ($7-$15), a noodle dish with thick wheat noodles. It’s topped with chungjang, a black bean paste, diced pork and vegetables. There’s also jjamppong ($9.50-$17), which features mussels and shrimp along with garlic and Korean red pepper powder.

The restaurant can seats up to about 75 and features design elements including an exposed ceiling and retro light fixtures. Designer Jinwoo Hwang has done the interior design for each of Sim’s restaurants.
