Crash blocks southbound Rainbow at Tropicana

A woman suffered “substantial injuries” in a southwest valley wreck when an SUV crossed into her lane Friday morning, according to Las Vegas police.

Metro’s fatal detail responded to the crash that was reported about 9:40 a.m. in the 5100 block of Rainbow Boulevard, north of Hacienda Avenue, police said.

Marsha Elliot, 57, was southbound on Rainbow in a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle nearing Hacienda when a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe, which was northbound on Rainbow, crossed the center lane and entered the Volkswagen’s path, police said.

The crash caused “major” damage to both vehicles, police said.

Elliot suffered “substantial” injuries and the driver of the Hyundai, 49-year-old Catherine Blieka, suffered “moderate” injuries. Both were taken to University Medical Center, police said.

No arrests or citations were reported on Friday, police said. The incident remains under investigation.
