Intersection of I-15 and Tropicana reopens after box truck overturned

The intersection of Tropicana Avenue at the Interstate 15 northbound ramp is open after a box truck carrying meat was on its side for nearly four hours Wednesday morning.

The crash happened about 7:50 a.m. and the truck’s driver was uninjured, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

It was originally reported that the truck was carrying produce. However, upon further investigation, it was determined that the truck was carrying meat products. The Southern Nevada Health District was called to the scene to inspect the food, Highway Patrol trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

The mechanism that cools the truck had been off for some time because of the crash, and the meat will be destroyed, Buratczuk said.

When the driver made a turn, it appears that the truck’s contents shifted from one side to the other, causing the truck to become unbalanced and overturn. Driver error caused the crash, Buratczuk said.

The intersection and two turn lanes from westbound Tropicana to I-15 were blocked.
