Mild temps, chance of rain on New Year’s Eve expected for Las Vegas Valley
December 28, 2016 - 7:51 pm
Two storm systems are headed toward the Las Vegas Valley over the weekend, threatening rain on New Year’s Eve.
The forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of rain in the evening, National Weather Service meteorologist Caleb Steele said. “There’s a lot to be ironed out for New Year’s Eve,” Steele said.
Thursday “will be our last shot of sun” before the storm systems move in, meteorologist John Adair said. The forecast high will reach 58 degrees.
Temperature highs the rest of the week should reach the mid 50s.
Despite a chance of rain dampening the holiday weekend, those celebrating on the Strip can expect a warmer-than-usual New Year’s Eve night. The temperature is expected to reach 43 degrees in the valley as celebrants ring in the new year, while temperatures dipped below freezing at 27 degrees during last New Year’s Eve, Adair said.
Similar to New Year’s Eve, Friday carries a 20 percent chance of rain, the weather service said. Friday also will bring more snow into the mountains with a 70 percent chance of snowfall.
