Storm brings showers to Las Vegas, parts of valley may see snow Monday morning

After temperatures hit a record high of 74 degrees Saturday, the start of the week will cool down after some Sunday showers, according to the National Weather Service.

The high Sunday reached 62 degrees before rain began to fall, and the temperature is expected to drop to 44 degrees overnight. Monday's high isn't expected to rise much higher, with a forecast of 49 degrees, according to the weather service.

A severe thunderstorm warning issued for Pahrump on Sunday afternoon was extended south into the Las Vegas Valley during the evening, affecting northern areas of the valley from Summerlin to Centennial Hills, National Weather Service meteorologist Justin Pullin said. 

A lightning strike was blamed for starting a fire that damaged a house in the Las Vegas Country Club community, according to Clark County Fire Department officials.

Mount Charleston has received more than 4 inches of snow Sunday, and a total snowfall of 10 to 20 inches is expected by Monday, Pullin said.

There are chances for "another round of showers overnight" Sunday and early Monday morning, Pullin said. Clouds should linger on Monday but should begin to break up, Pullin said.

Winds are expected to pick up Monday and to reach between 25 and 35 mph, Pullin said.

The valley will dry out through the afternoon before the low drops to 32 degrees Monday night.

Tuesday also will be chilly with a high temperature of 49 degrees in the afternoon, according to the weather service.
