Class 3A: Garrett Lucas scores winning run as Pahrump tops Tech

Garrett Lucas scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to give Pahrump Valley a 4-3 home win over Tech in the opening round of the Class 3A Southern Region baseball tournament on Tuesday.

Lucas tossed a complete game, scattering five hits with seven strikeouts and no earned runs.

Willie Lucas singled twice and scored twice, and Cyle Havel doubled twice and scored a run for Pahrump (17-13-1), which hosts Virgin Valley (17-8-1) at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sean Jones went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Jose Leon went 2-for-3 with a double for Tech (16-12), which plays at Western (9-16) in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Virgin Valley 3, Western 1 — At Mesquite, Dakota Munford and Aiden Woods combined on a two-hitter and led the Bulldogs by the Warriors.

Munford allowed two hits and an unearned run while striking out four in 6⅓ innings of work before Woods came on to get the final two outs.

Dillan Fuqua hit a solo home run in his only at bat for Virgin Valley. Cade Anderson was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Virgin Valley.

Mark Gastelum was 1-for-2 with a double for Western.

Chaparral 7, Desert Pines 5 — At Desert Pines, Rodney Elosegui went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and winning pitcher James Cobian was 3-for-4 with a double as the Cowboys held off the Jaguars.

Antonio Vara was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, and Jacob Mauro went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for Chaparral (24-6), which plays at Boulder City (18-11-1) at 3:30 p.m. on Wednedsay.

Steven Laureano went 3-for-4, and teammate Fernando Fuentes was 2-for-4 with a double for Desert Pines (20-9), which hosts Mojave (7-21) in an elimination gmae at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Boulder City 20, Mojave 5 — At Boulder City, Teddy Lobkowicz went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and the Eagles took advantage of 12 walks and four hit batsmen to rout the Rattlers in four innings.

Nolan Herr was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Jimmy Dunagan went 1-for-1 with four RBIs for Boulder City. Chafton Temple was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and three RBIs for the Eagles, and teammate Joey Giunta went 1-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs.

Mike Cianci was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs, and Kevin Gutierrez was 2-for-3 with two runs for Mojave.
