Bishop Gorman tabs Kevin Nixon as girls basketball coach

Bishop Gorman hired Kevin Nixon as its new girls basketball coach, the school announced Thursday.

Nixon was an assistant coach for the girls team from 2005 to 2010, helping the Gaels win four Class 4A state championships. He has been an assistant coach for Gorman’s boys team the last three seasons.

Nixon replaces Sheryl Krmpotich, who resigned in June after compiling a 477-89 record in 18 seasons at the school.

“His knowledge of the team and experience with the program will mean a smooth transition for our players,” Gorman athletic director Sally Nieman said in a news release. “We are confident in his ability to continue our tradition of excellence.”

Nixon is a full-time faculty member at Bishop Gorman, teaching social studies and moderates the mock trial program.

He takes over a program that went 29-2 and reached the Division I Sunset Region championship game before losing to eventual state champion Centennial.
