Review-Journal girls basketball rankings — Dec. 27

Class 4A

1. Centennial (8-2, LW 1) — The Bulldogs host the Las Vegas Holiday Classic this week.

2. Liberty (9-0, LW 2) — The Patriots are gunning for the top spot after winning the rTarkanian Classic.

3. Spring Valley (7-2, LW 3) — The Grizzlies will be one of the favorites to win the Gator Winter Classic this week.

4. Desert Oasis (8-1, LW 4) — The Diamondbacks lost their first game last week in the Tarkanian Classic, and are in Oregon this week.

5. Bishop Gorman (3-5, LW 5) — The Gaels dipped under .500, and will look to rebound in the the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic.

6. Green Valley (9-1, LW 7) — The Gators are hosting the Gator Winter Classic this week, and winning it could catapult them up the rankings.

7. Cimarron-Memorial (8-2, LW 8) — The Spartans are in the Gator Winter Classic this week.

8. Arbor View (7-5, LW 9) — Beating Coronado in the Tarkanian Classic helped the Aggies jump up to No. 8.

9. Coronado (5-4, LW 6) — A rough week in the Tarkanian Classic saw the Cougars slip down three spots.

10. Canyon Springs (6-4, LW unranked) — The Pioneers enter the rankings, and are idle until Jan. 10.

Class 3A

1. Moapa Valley (10-1, LW 2) — A beatdown of Chaparral gets the Pirates back into the top spot.

2. Pahrump Valley (8-2, LW 1) — The Trojans return to the court on Jan. 8 against Boulder City.

3. Cheyenne (5-4, LW 3) — The West Coast Jamboree this week presents a good opportunity for the Desert Shields to climb in the rankings.

4. Boulder City (6-3, LW 4) — The Eagles did not get an easy draw in the Gator Winter Classic, and will look to prove themselves.

5. Virgin Valley (5-5, LW 5) — The Bulldogs are hanging onto their ranking, and will look to improve it at the Gator Winter Classic.

Class 2A

1. Needles (10-4, LW 2) — The defending state champs are re-coronated this week as 2A’s top team.

2. Democracy Prep (7-3, LW 1) — The Blue Knights are going to need to find some help for Sharmayne Finley.

3. Lincoln County (9-1, LW 3) — The Lynx beat Needles last week, and have a strong case to be the top team in the class.

4. Lake Mead (5-4, LW 4) — The Eagles are back this week with a road trip to play Pahranagat Valley.

5. Calvary Chapel (5-5, LW 5) — Class 2A is a gauntlet this year, and the Lions shouldn’t be overlooked.

Class 1A

1. Pahranagat Valley (7-3, LW 1) — The Panthers host Class 2A Lake Mead on Saturday.

2. Round Mountain (7-3, LW 2) — League play for the Knights starts on Jan. 5, with a home game against Tonopah.

3. Beatty (1-3, LW 3) — The Hornets play at Round Mountain on Jan. 6.

4. Indian Springs (5-0, LW 4) — The Thunderbirds put their undefeated streak on the line Jan. 10 against Mountain View.

5. Word of Life (2-2, LW 5) — The Eagles plat at Calvary Chapel on Jan. 2.

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
