Roundup: Western tops Del Sol in Sunset League play-in game

Millani Johnson scored 14 points to help Western’s girls basketball team earn the final spot in the Class 3A Southern Region playoffs with a 36-28 win over Del Sol in a Sunset League play-in game on Friday at Valley.

Taysha Poole added 11 points for the Warriors, who overcame a 17-11 halftime deficit to earn the right to visit Sunrise League champion Boulder City at 5 p.m. Tuesday in a region quarterfinal.

Paige Birch led Del Sol with 12 points.

Boulder City 53, Moapa Valley 41 — At Overton, Ellie Howard had 28 points as the Eagles defeated the Pirates.

Keely Alexander added 12 points, and Madison Manns scored 10 points for Boulder City.

Kaitlyn Anderson led Moapa Valley with 19 points, and teammate Lainey Cornwall scored 11 points.

GV Christian 46, Indian Springs 17 — At Indian Springs, Chloe Lamb had 18 points as the Guardians trounced the Thunderbirds.

Ariana Davis added 12 points, and Abigail Johnson scored 10 for GV Christian, which led 16-9 after one quarter.

NIAA to re-evaluate rule allowing appeals of forfeits

The association’s board of control voted Wednesday to have staff write a proposal and survey member schools to possibly strike the ability for teams that use an ineligible to appeal any forfeits.
