Roundup: Coronado dominates at Howell Memorial Tournament

Kaitlyn Kowalchuk had two goals and an assist Saturday to power the Coronado’s girls soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Damonte Ranch in the Howell Memorial Tournament in Reno.

Alysa Caso, Brenna Heenan and Jensen Boman all scored for the Cougars.

Taylor Book recorded the shutout for Coronado with four saves.

Coronado 3, Elko 0 — At Reno, Alysa Caso had two goals and an assist in the Cougars’ victory over the Indians in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Mackenzie Malia also had a goal for the Cougars.

Faith Lutheran 2, Truckee 1 — At Reno, Amelia McManus and Kennedy Lazenby each had second-half goals to lift the Crusaders over the Wolverines in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Truckee scored first after neither team netted a goal in the first half, then McManus and Lazenby scored in the final 13 minutes of play to give the Crusaders the lead.

Desert Oasis 7, Cheyenne 0 —At Mesquite, the Diamondbacks rolled over the Desert Shields to win the Mesquite Cup.

Las Vegas 3, Bonanza 1 — At Mesquite, Maria Hernandez had a goal and an assist to lift the Wildcats over the Bengals in the third-place game of the Mesquite Cup.

Brinkley McCoy and Atziri Avila scored for the Wildcats.

Pahrump Valley 1, Virgin Valley 0 — At Mesquite, Kathy Niles scored on a corner kick from Kaitlyn Carrington to help the Trojans beat the Bulldogs in the Mesquite Cup and claim fifth place.

Alyvia Briscoe made one save in the Trojans’ shutout, and they earned fifth place in the tournament.

Clark 3, Moapa Valley 2 —At Mesquite, the Chargers beat the Pirates in the seventh-place game of the Mesquite Cup.

Faith Lutheran 1, Bishop Gorman 1 — At Reno, Maggie Shuirman scored for the Crusaders as they played to a draw against the Gaels.

Skyline (Utah) 5, Arbor View 1 — At Salt Lake City, Jolianna Meyers scored for the Aggies, but they fell to the Eagles.

Cassidy Orr hat a hat trick for Skyline, and Jayda Massina scored twice.

Goalie Kirsten Kircher made 12 saves, and Camden Berry and Kennedy Enus led the defense as Bishop Gorman held off Palo Verde’s late rally for a 3-2 win at Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex.

3A girls: Ava Seelenfreund’s hat trick seals Pahrump’s fate

Ava Seelenfreund finished with a hat trick and an assist as the Wolverines overwhelmed Pahrump Valley 7-0 to advance to the state championship game at noon Saturday against South Tahoe (24-2).
