Roundup: Gorman places fourth at Tournament of Champions

Bishop Gorman’s girls volleyball team finished in fourth place at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix on Saturday, picking up a signature win along the way.

The Gaels went 2-2 Saturday, including a 25-16, 16-25, 15-12 victory over Xavier Prep (Arizona), the No. 8 team in the country in USA Today’s rankings.

Gorman fell to Mater Dei (California), 16-25, 18-25. The Monarchs are the No. 2 team on USA Today’s list.

The Gaels beat West Orange (California), 25-23, 25-18, and fell to Millennium (Arizona) in the third-place game, 24-26, 25-18.

Faith Lutheran 2, West Anchorage (Alaska) 0 — At Phoenix, Hailey Carroll had 12 assists, Isabelle Guerrero had five kills and four digs, and Anna Massari had five kills in the Crusaders’ 26-24, 25-18 victory over the Eagles at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Faith Lutheran 2, Riverton (Utah) 1 — At Phoenix, Carroll had 25 assists and 11 digs, Guerrero had 12 kills and seven digs, and Lauren Tomita had 15 digs as the Crusaders beat the Silverwolves, 25-19, 22-25, 15-7, at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Faith Lutheran 2, Olympian (Calif.) 0 — At Phoenix, Tomita had 10 digs, Carroll had 15 assists, and Maggie Skinner had six kills to help the Crusaders top the Eagles, 25-13, 25-19, at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Mountain View (Ariz.) 2, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Phoenix, Carroll had 25 assists, Skinner had seven kills and nine digs, and Guerrero had nine kills, but the Crusaders fell to the Toros, 14-25, 25-11, 13-15, at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Centennial 2, San Pasqual (Calif.) 0 — At La Jolla, California, the Bulldogs picked up a 25-10, 25-10 victory over the Golden Eagles at the La Jolla Invitational.

Our Lady of Peace (Calif.) 2, Centennial 1 — At La Jolla, California, the Bulldogs fell to the Pilots, 12-25, 25-17, 12-15, at the La Jolla Invitational.

Palo Verde 2, Del Norte (Calif.) 1 — At La Jolla, California, the Panthers beat the Nighthawks, 2-26, 19-25, 17-15, at the La Jolla Invitational.

Dana Hills (Calif.) 2, Palo Verde 0 — At La Jolla, California, the Panthers dropped a 14-25, 13-25 decision to the Dolphins at the La Jolla Invitational.
