CARSON CITY — Lt. Gov.-elect Mark Hutchison submitted his letter of resignation from his Senate District 6 seat to Gov. Brian Sandoval on Monday, effective as of 5 p.m.
In an announcement, Hutchison, who is in the middle of a four-year term in the state Senate, said his resignation will allow the Clark County Commission to move forward in a smooth and transparent manner to appoint a replacement.
Hutchison will be sworn in as the new lieutenant governor in January.
In his letter to Sandoval, Hutchison said: “It has been one of the great privileges of my life to serve as a member of the Nevada State Legislature representing my neighbors, friends, associates, and fellow Nevadans of Senate District No. 6.
“I anticipate that the Clark County Commission will soon appoint a qualified individual to represent my district in the State Senate,” he said. “Once the appointment is made, I stand ready and willing to work diligently with the new State Senator to ensure a smooth transition and continued strong representation for our constituents in Senate District No. 6.”
