Man critically injured after crash involving 3-wheeled motorcycle

A 75-year-old man remains in critical condition after a crash involving his three-wheeled motorcycle in the west valley Wednesday night.

The crash happened about 8:10 p.m. near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Desert Inn Road, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Charles Jenkins said.

Frederick Marquardt was driving a 2002 Honda Trike northbound on Rainbow at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at the intersection, according to the police report.

Marquardt slammed into the right rear of a Chevrolet Sonic and was ejected from his trike, which continued to crash into a Hyundai Sonata.

He was taken to UMC Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

The drivers of the Sonic and the Sonata remained on the scene and tried to help Marquardt. Metro’s fatal crash investigators continue to investigate the accident.
