Park named after slain Metro police officer Beck — VIDEO

Nicole Beck couldn’t hold back the tears Wednesday as Las Vegas leaders renamed Indian Hills park for her husband.

Beck, the widow of Metro police officer Alyn Beck, said she always breaks down when she talks about him.

“I’ve run by that (park) so many times with Alyn and we talked about taking our kids there,” Beck said of newly christened Alyn Beck Memorial Park, near Fort Apache and Iron Mountain roads. “This means so much. Thank you.”

The unanimous City Council vote to rename the park comes a little more than a year after Alyn, 41, was gunned down along with his partner, Igor Soldo, 31, while eating lunch at CiCi’s Pizza, 309 N. Nellis Blvd.

Their killers — anti-government, anti-police zealots Jerad and Amanda Miller — were found dead after a shootout with police at a nearby Wal-Mart.

City Councilman Steve Ross, who sponsored this week’s park renaming, said he plans to bring forward a similar item to name a park in Soldo’s honor in the coming months.

The city is also home to Police Memorial Park, on Metro Academy Way just north of Cheyenne Avenue. That park features a fallen officer tree grove, memorial wall and memorial statue.
