Spaghetti Bowl bridge to be demolished Friday night for Project Neon

The freeway bridge over Symphony Park Avenue will be torn down this weekend, making it the first bridge to be demolished for the $1 billion widening of the Spaghetti Bowl interchange known as Project Neon, the Nevada Department of Transportation said.

Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, drivers will be rerouted onto a temporary patch sitting atop a new dirt berm. Crews will knock down a section of the 180-foot-long, 17-foot-tall flyover ramp over Symphony Park Avenue, which will be closed between Grand Central Parkway and Martin Luther King Boulevard during the weekend project.

Construction is expected to begin later this month for a new bridge that’s scheduled to open by late January.
