LETTER: Fill ‘er up, son

It was 1955, and gasoline was 28 cents a gallon. I was 15 years old and worked at a filling station after school. The usual request was for “two dollars regular or ethyl.” While the gasoline was pumping, I would clean all the windows, then ask if I should check the oil. If needed, I would add a quart.

Those days will never be forgotten.
