Ad promotes gun background check question on Nov. 8 election
August 30, 2016 - 2:40 pm
The first Nevadans for Background Checks TV ad promoting the state ballot initiative proposing to expand firearm background checks to private-party sales and transfers was launched Tuesday.
Question 1 will be on the Nov. 8 ballot.
The ad features Jim Dunlap, president of the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers saying that expanding background checks would reduce gun violence and save the lives of police officers by making it harder for criminals to get guns.
Nevadans for Background Checks Campaign Manager Joe Duffy said in a statement the group has “thousands of law enforcement officers who support Question 1 and our ad campaign reflects that.”
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson and a handful of former sheriffs and police unions have endorsed the measure.
Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo has said he will remain neutral on the measure.
Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt and more than a dozen county sheriffs have come out against it.
