It’s ridiculously windy in Las Vegas today

If you didn’t find what you wanted under the tree this morning, it might be because Santa’s sleigh got blown off course.

The National Weather Service says wind is blowing between 21 and 28 miles per hour in the Las Vegas area and a wind advisory has been issued.

“Right now we’re gusting to 45 miles an hour,” meteorologist John Salmen said.

He says the strong winds should only last until about 1 p.m.

“It’s a little cooler, we’re usually around 55 or 56,” Salmen said of the low temperatures currently being reported around the valley.

It is 49 degrees at McCarran International Airport, Salmen said at 10:30 a.m.

It’s still not likely that it will start to look like Christmas around here anytime soon. Salmen says there is no precipitation in the forecast, which means no snow.

For a white Christmas, you can head up to the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort and ski with Santa.
