Gov. Brian Sandoval to embark on trade mission to Australia

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval is about to embark on yet another foreign trade mission, this time to the land down under.

Sandoval, along with representatives from the Nevada System of Higher Education, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and local businesses plan to leave for Australia on July 20, returning Aug. 6.

Sandoval has gone on several trade missions as governor, most recently in October 2015 when he went to China. He also visited China in 2012.

During the 2015 trip to China, Sandoval met with Jia Yueting, the financial backer of the electric car maker Faraday Future. Following that meeting, Faraday picked Southern Nevada for its manufacturing plant, which was finalized in a special legislative session in December 2015.

Sandoval also led a trade mission to Europe in the summer of 2015, visiting Ireland, Britain, Germany, Poland and Italy. He has also visited Mexico, Canada and Israel on separate trade missions.

The costs of sending Sandoval, his staff and economic development officials are typically paid out of the economic development office’s budget.
