Nevada once again holds third place for the most expensive market for retail gasoline nationwide — and prices are expected to fluctuate as gasoline blended for summer use continues to make its way to terminals statewide, the latest AAA Fuel Gauge Report released Tuesday shows.
Today’s gasoline prices, registered by AAA Fuel Gauge Report, shows Nevada pump prices are up $0.25 from a month ago, with the average price of unleaded regular at $2.44 per gallon as of today. Still, it’s cheaper than a year ago when the average price was $2.78 per gallon of unleaded regular, AAA said in a statement.
In all Nevada metro areas tracked by AAA, Sparks is registering the state’s highest pump price, with drivers paying an average price of $2.59 per gallon for unleaded regular gas. Carson City and Elko are registering Nevada’s lowest price, at $2.29 a gallon.
“State pump prices are likely to fluctuate as the supply of summer-blend gasoline continues to make its way to terminals statewide,” Cynthia Harris, AAA Nevada spokesperson, said in the statement. “The restart of the ExxonMobil’s Torrance, California, refinery and the gasoline market is poised to be well supplied as we enter the busy summer driving season. Barring any major disruptions or shortages in supply, the above factors may keep pump prices relatively steady in the coming weeks.”
Today’s national average of $2.06 per gallon is the lowest for this day since 2009 and average prices are about 35 cents per gallon cheaper than a year ago, AAA said.
