Clark County coroner IDs inmate who died after he was found bleeding in jail cell
The inmate who died after he was found bleeding in his cell Saturday at the Clark County Detention Center has been identified.
He is Jeremy Bowling, 25, from Shelbyville, Kentucky.
In a statement, police said a corrections officer found the injured inmate at about 5:30 p.m. during routine inspections. The inmate died at University Medical Center later that evening.
The Clark County coroner’s office has confirmed Bowling’s death was a homicide. He died from strangulation and blunt force injury to the head, the coroner’s office said.
Clark County District Court records show that Bowling pleaded guilty Aug. 26 to attempted grand larceny. His sentencing was scheduled for Thursday.
The suspect in the homicide, Franklin Sharp, 33, faces charges of open murder in addition to previous charges of attempted grand larceny and attempted burglary.
