Favorite Sons & Daughters

Hannah Courser, a sophomore at Valley High School, raised $1,000 for Project 150, a charity dedicated to helping homeless, displaced and disadvantaged students at 15 Southern Nevada high schools.

Courser raised the money through the Teens 4 Teens Walk-A-Thon March 30, which she organized.

Kayla Marshall, a fourth-grade student in Rachel Ferreiro’s class at Gehring Elementary School, recently won the Mojave Max Emergence contest.

Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown announced the contest winner at a ceremony April 11 at the school.

Kayla guessed that Mojave Max, a live desert tortoise, would emerge from hibernation at 1:43 p.m. March 14. He emerged at 1:45 p.m. March 14.

Jacob Harper has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2010 graduate of Foothill High School, Harper is the son of Denise Roberts of Las Vegas.

Ciera Gonzales has graduated from Air Force basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Southwest Career and Technical Academy, Gonzales is the daughter of David and Charlene Gonzales of Las Vegas.

Tyler Kim has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2010 graduate of Centennial High School, Kim is the son of Sean Kim Sr. and Margaret Kim, both of Las Vegas.

Brandon Wiltz has graduated from Air Force basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

A 2012 graduate of Foothill High School, Wiltz is the son of Kevin Wiltz of Henderson and Catherine Stutzman of Las Vegas.

Alexandra Keft, a senior at Clark High School, has accepted a full scholarship to join the women’s fencing team at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Keft is in an accelerated science and math program at her school, is an accomplished ballet dancer, plays violin and piano and is fluent in French and Russian.

Keft has studied fencing at the Fencing Academy of Nevada.

She is the daughter of Valery and Nathalie Keft.

Jordan Johnson of Henderson has been inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society.

Johnson is pursuing a degree in English at Brigham Young University-Hawaii in Laie, Hawaii.

Kaitlin Busser of Henderson made the dean’s list at Binghamton University’s Harpur College of Arts and Sciences in Binghamton, N.Y., for the fall 2012 semester.

Kevin Kaitschuck has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Kaitschuck is a 2012 graduate of Del Sol High School.

Luke Hansen of Las Vegas was named Conference Carolinas player of the week on April 3.

Hansen, a men’s volleyball player at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., is a freshman physical education and sport studies major, with a concentration in exercise science.

He is the son of Duane and Nancy Hansen.

Micah Insley has graduated from Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Insley is the son of Cindy Dion and grandson of John Noble, both of Henderson.
