Millennials drink more wine than any other age group, study says

Long gone are the days of keg stands and Solo cups filled with beer for the exuberant millennial generation.

According to a new study, the millennials — typically categorized as 21 to 38-year-olds  have a taste for wine, as they consumed more wine than any other generation last year.

Based on a study conducted by the Wine Market Council, the millennials, whose youngest member officially turned 21 on Jan. 1, drank 159.6 million cases of wine in 2015. Not only is that more wine than the baby boomers and Generation-X consumed, but it's also equal to 42 percent of all the wine drunk in the U.S. last year.

If that doesn't prove millennials really enjoy their wine, try swallowing this fact: the high-frequency millennial wine drinker consumes 3.1 glasses of wine per sitting, which is more than older groups, according to the study.

In the past month, 17 percent of all millennial wine drinkers purchased a bottle of wine that cost over $20, compared to 10 percent of Gen-X and five percent of baby boomers.
