Circus Circus to introduce new roller coaster in late January

Circus Circus said Monday that it will open a new roller coaster in its Adventuredome in late January. The exact date was not announced.

According to statements on social media and on the resort’s web page, the final piece of the 1,300-foot track for the El Loco roller coaster is being laid this week. Coaster cars have started to arrive, the statement said, and one is already on display.

The open-carriage cars will each accommodate four passengers and are smaller than average, allowing tighter, faster turns, the statement said.

The coaster’s elements include a 90-foot ascent followed by a greater-than-straight-down dive producing a negative-1.5 vertical G, a 45-degree outwardly banked curve and a 180-degree turn and barrel roll, the statement said.

There are five other El Loco-style coasters worldwide, Circus Circus said this year.

“As with all our rides, safety is our No. 1 concern,” Tom Nolan, vice president of operations for the Adventuredome, said in the statement. “El Loco has a number of unique elements that make it a thrill-a-second ride, and this extensive testing process will ensure that every rider has a safe and fun experience.”

The project was announced this year. No cost figure was available.

The coaster is designed by S&S Worldwide Inc.
