1 dead, 1 injured in Sunday morning car shooting in central valley

One person was killed and another wounded in a shooting near Decatur Boulevard and Evergreen Avenue early Sunday morning, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.

Las Vegas police responded to reports of a shooting at about 1:50 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle with two people with apparent gunshot wounds. One person was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was taken to University Medical Center Trauma Center for treatment, the release said.

According to Metro homicide detectives, the two people were in their vehicle when they were confronted by a person in a second vehicle near Decatur Boulevard and Hayes Place. The suspect fired multiple rounds from that vehicle to the other and then fled the scene, police said. The vehicle with the two gunshot victims came to a rest a short distance later near Decatur Boulevard and Evergreen Avenue, police said. No suspects have been arrested, and the investigation is continuing, Las Vegas police said.

The identity of the victims will be released by the Clark County Coroner's office.

This is the 28th homicide investigated by Metro in 2016.
