Bicyclist died 17 days after February hit-and-run, police say

A bicyclist died 17 days after a February hit-and-run crash in the east valley, Las Vegas police said Thursday.

Gerald Scrimshire, 55, died Feb. 21, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. The coroner released the cause of death Thursday, police said.

Scrimshire was riding a mountain bicycle at the intersection of Boulder Highway and Nellis Boulevard about 4 p.m. on Feb. 4 when he was hit by a car, police said. The car was described as possibly being a light-colored two-door Suzuki Geo Metro.

The driver of the car did not stop and drove away.

Scrimshire was hospitalized at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center after complaining about a headache, police said. His condition deteriorated and he died in hospice care.

Scrimshire’s death was ruled an accident, and the driver has not been identified.
