Fire in child’s bedroom displaces four

The Las Vegas Fire Department is investigating a fire that started in a child's bedroom early Sunday morning in the east Las Vegas Valley, according to a department release.

Fire dispatchers received 911 calls at about 6:30 a.m. that a child's bedroom was on fire at the La Fiesta Apartments, 1492 N. Lamb Blvd., near Owens Avenue.

When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke coming out of a window of an upstairs apartment. The fire was contained to one room, and firefighters had it under control in just a few minutes, the release said.

Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said that the fire appears to be accidental, but the cause is still under investigation.

The bedroom had some heat and smoke damage while the vacant apartment below had minor water damage. The total damage was estimated at $20,000, according to the release.

The American Red Cross is assisting two adults and two small children who are displaced by the fire. There were no injuries during the incident.
