House fire in western Las Vegas causes about $170K in damage

A house fire that caused about $170,000 in damage Wednesday morning in the west valley has displaced one man.

Just after 11 a.m., firefighters responded to the fire at 2120 Fuller Road, near West Lake Mead and North Michael Way, Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The fire spread from the kitchen to the garage and burned through the roof, he said. It took 10 minutes to extinguish.

Szymanski said rice left cooking on the stove caused the fire. The occupant had left the house, believing the stove was off, for about 2o minutes and returned home to flames.

No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced man.
