Man dead after Sunday apartment fire

A man died Monday after he was found unconscious and pulled from a smoke-filled central valley apartment late Sunday night, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

The man was quickly taken out of the 2113 W. Washington Ave. apartment, near Tonopah Drive, when crews responded to the apartment's small fire about 11 p.m., the Fire Department said.

First responders provided CPR but he died shortly after being taken to University Medical Center, Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said. No one else was injured.

The smoke did more damage than the fire, Szymanski said. Damage is estimated at about $5,000, Szymanski said. No other apartments were damaged.

The fire remains under investigation. Szymanski said the identity of the middle-aged man will be released by the coroner's office once his family is notified.
