New York police officer accused in 2014 beating now facing DWI, police say

NEW YORK — A New York City police officer already accused of drunkenly breaking into a woman’s apartment and punching her 20 times now faces a driving while intoxicated charge after police say he crashed into three parked cars.

Police say responders helped get Eugene Donnelly out of the car following the off-duty rollover crash in Manhattan on Sunday.

Donnelly has been arraigned on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

A union representative did not immediately respond to a request Monday for comment on his behalf.

Police say the 29-year-old Donnelly has been suspended.

Donnelly is charged with misdemeanor assault and burglary in the June 2014 Bronx incident. His attorneys have said he was sleepwalking during the attack. He’s expected in court next month for that case.
