Favorite Sons & Daughters, Feb. 4-10

Air Force Airman Michael J. Ocampo graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Ocampo is the son of Edna Contreras of Las Vegas. He is a 2007 graduate of Sierra Vista High School.

Conner Walter has achieved Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America. A member of Troop 99, Walter’s Eagle Project consisted of preparing the ground and pouring two slabs of concrete at Shadow Ridge High School for its baseball batting cages.

He enjoys playing lacrosse, camping, playing guitar and spending time with friends. He is a sophomore at Northwest Career and Technical Academy.

Walter is the son of Mindy and Lelon Walter of Las Vegas.

Christina Bloom, daughter of Jeffrey and Joie Bloom of Henderson, has been named to the Dean’s List of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., for academic achievement during the fall 2013 semester.

A graduate of Coronado High School, Bloom was a sophomore at Macalester last fall.

Army Pfc. Jordan A. Tennant has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. He is the son of Tobie Tennant of Las Vegas and is a 2009 graduate of Cheyenne High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Richard G. Peterson has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., which included basic military training and advanced individual training. Peterson is the son of Daniel Urbany of Las Vegas. He is a 2012 graduate of Desert Oasis High School.

Nicholas J. Salamunovich, 17, a senior at Bishop Gorman High School, has been awarded the Squire Body of the Christ by the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council. Salamunovich has been a member of the Knights of Columbus Council of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Summerlin for six years. He is the first to be awarded in Nevada.

Michaela Tomchek of Las Vegas has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2013 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Tomchek is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.

Anthony Ciampa, a sophomore marketing major from Las Vegas, was named to the fall semester Dean’s List at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.

Brenden Russ, son of Eric W. Russ of Las Vegas, was named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn.

Jennifer Allen of Las Vegas has earned highest honors for the fall 2013-14 academic year at the University of New Hampshire.

Nicole A. Caracci of Las Vegas made the President’s List for the fall 2013 semester at SUNY Canton in New York. She is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing major and a 1989 graduate of Las Vegas High School.

To receive President’s List honors, full-time students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Nathaniel Grimes, a marine science and economics major from Henderson, has made the President’s List at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C., for the fall 2013 semester.

To qualify for the list, students must earn a 4.0 grade point average and must be enrolled full time.

Top scholars at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., have been announced with the release of the Dean’s Honor Roll for the fall 2013 semester.

Area students on the list include: Benjamin Ayivorh, North Las Vegas; Bradley Batchelor, Las Vegas; and Jeramie Hebron, Las Vegas.

Luther College recently announced students who were named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List.

Area students on the list include: Paul McKay, a junior from Henderson, son of Warren and Elizabeth McKay; Sara Nelson, a sophomore from Las Vegas, daughter of Daniel and Joyce Nelson; and Shelby Nelson, a junior from Las Vegas, daughter of Daniel and Joyce Nelson.
