Highlighting achievements, June 30, 2016 — PHOTOS

Art contest winner: Chaparral High School 12th-grader Rebekah Solorzano recently received the grand prize in an art contest celebrating the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary titled Every Kid in a Park.

Military service: Ensign Christopher Rodman, a Las Vegas native, is serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the guided missile destroyer USS Ross. Rodman is a surface warfare officer aboard the forward-deployed Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer operating out of Rota, Spain.

Student recognitions:

— Stacy Kreuziger of Las Vegas, attending Saint Joseph’s University’s Haub School of Business in Philadelphia was inducted into the national business honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma, during the spring 2016 semester.

— Mason J. Archer of Las Vegas and a student at Sierra Vista High School was part of the first group of winners in the 61st annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Archer’s probable career field is in economics.

— The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Arizona State University: Brian Cunningham, Kelli Hardin and Sarah Fackrell, all of Las Vegas; and Todd Grant of North Las Vegas.

— Army and Navy Academy announced students who have been named to the San Diego Union-Tribune All-Academic Teams. They include: Duran Heath of Las Vegas, track and field team; Raj Kittusamy of Las Vegas, baseball team; and Thomas Yoo of Las Vegas, lacrosse team.

— Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire announced that the following students achieved academic honors during the winter 2016 term: Erik G. Carlson, grade 11, of Las Vegas earned High Honors for the winter 2016 term; and Oren U. Stern, grade 10, of Las Vegas earned Honors for the winter 2016 term.

— Students who made the Scholastic Honor Roll winter term at Oregon State University include: Danielle L. Dessaints, Tessa L. Fettig, Cadyn T. Grenier and Christina G. Steinberg, all of Henderson; and Rachael M. Korbel and Joshua R. Ribera, both of Las Vegas.

— Angelica McNerny of Las Vegas was among 78 cadets who have been designated as commanders, regimental staff and more at The Citadel for the Class of 2017. The new officers were presented with chevrons that will be added to their uniforms to reflect their ranks. They will assume their stations when the fall semester begins.

Military graduations:

— U.S. Army Pvt. Michael D. Mitchell graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He is a 2015 graduate of Legacy High School.

— U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Robin N. Secatero graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Secatero is the daughter of Anthony C. Secatero of Las Vegas and Janel Manuelito of Albuquerque, N.M.

— U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Jacob L. Cushatt graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. He is the son of Carl T. and Michele K. Cushatt of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and grandson of Deanna Trethewey of Henderson.
