Thunderstorms, flash-flood warning last through late Monday night in Las Vegas Valley

A flash flood warning was in effect late Monday night, results of a rainy prelude to dry and sunny weather that’s expected to return for the remainder of the week, the National Weather Service said.

At least five people were rescued by fire crews from flooded areas or intersections in the northeast, dispatch logs showed. About 5,900 people in the area also lost power Monday night.

The flash flood warning was in effect until at least 11:15 p.m., extended from the inital 10:15 p.m. cutoff during the downpour, according to the weather service.

“The most action will be (Monday) evening,” meteorologist Barry Pierce said.

Most thunderstorms Monday were in the northern valley, Pierce said, including the northeast valley, where more than an inch of rain fell in less than an hour.

Looking forward, the rest of the week should be warm and dry, with a 98-degree high forecast for Tuesday and 102 degrees for Wednesday, Pierce said. Temperatures will drop again on Thursday and Friday with highs at 101 degrees and 98 degrees, according to the weather service.

Saturday is expected to see mostly clear skies and have a high of 98 degrees.
