Dining Pick of the Week: Bonefish Grill

Bonefish Grill

8701 W. Charleston Blvd., 702-240-0532

Who says the Strip has all the good restaurants? Bonefish Grill combines a varied menu with a casual but polished atmosphere. The bar offers a plethora of options from wines to handcrafted martinis. On the dining side, there’s no pretense, no stuffiness and no unpronounceable selections —just high-quality seafood served in innovative ways. Bonefish is known for kicking things off with its Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer — a longtime customer favorite with crunchy shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce — and it also prides itself on sesame-seared ahi tuna shashimi, edamame hummus served with house-made crackers, Thai coconut shrimp and Maryland crab cakes. New for the appetizers menu is the Cold Snap Fresh Ceviche, which is chilled baby scallops, shrimp, fresh fish and vegetables served in a glass made of ice. For main dishes, Bonefish offers a Chilean sea bass that promises a moist, melt-in-your-mouth experience with large, thick flakes, as well as Atlantic salmon, sea scallops and shrimp, ahi tuna steak, rainbow tout, and coldwater lobster tails. Don’t feel like seafood? Bonefish covers all tastes, with filet mignon, rib eye, a sirloin and crab cake combo and the Fontina chop, a boneless pork chop served with a mushroom Marsala wine sauce. Chicken also is available, as is a basil fettuccine with artichoke pesto. Finish things off with the signature dish of the Florida-born restaurant model: Key lime pie. Sunday brunch includes the endless champagne all-you-can-eat option, as well as a variety of omelets such as the Oscar (asparagus, crab and smoked mozzarella) and the Cajun (shrimp, goat cheese, onion and sweet bell peppers). Bonefish Grill is open from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. There is also a location at Town Square Las Vegas. Dear Penny: Do I really have to tip 20% at a buffet?!

To answer this common question, we have to shift the way we understand tipping. The reason we tip is not to offer a thank-you or a reward to service workers for an outstanding or even sufficient job.
