On vacation the past two weeks, I sometimes felt as though every time I checked in on the news, I came across yet another story about football and CTE, the terrible neurodegenerative brain disease that afflicts way too many football players. Its formal name is chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and it can be diagnosed only after someone dies and his brain is cut open.
