Nevada insurance exchange breaks 10,000 in paid enrollments

The state insurance exchange on Tuesday reported gains in paid enrollments.

As of Saturday, 10,547 Nevadans had signed up for and paid premiums on new coverage through the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, the marketplace through which individuals can qualify for premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.

That was up from 6,219 paid enrollments as of Dec. 23.

The exchange also reported that 17,673 consumers had chosen qualified health plans, compared with 12,740 plan selections just before Christmas.

The exchange’s website recorded about 180,000 unique page views from Dec. 21 to Jan. 4, bringing the total to 914,977 distinct views since its Oct. 1 launch.

Enrollment is still below the 118,000 sign-ups exchange officials projected based on the number of uninsured Nevadans. More than 600,000 residents lack coverage.

Consumers had until Dec. 23 to enroll and Dec. 30 to pay premiums for plans that took effect Jan. 1.

Enrollment will continue through March 31, though Nevadans buying coverage now will face a waiting period of 15 to 45 days before their plan takes effect.
