UNLV board cancels meeting because of lack of quorum

The legislatively created advisory board that serves as a back-up plan to UNLV’s hopes of getting a new facility for its football team canceled a meeting Wednesday because it couldn’t draw a quorum among its members.

The Campus Improvement Authority Board was scheduled to review a resolution addressing what would occur if a recommendation from the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee doesn’t result in the development of a new $1.9 billion domed stadium that would house UNLV football and, possibly, the NFL’s Oakland Raiders.

The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee has until the end of September to deliver a recommendation to Gov. Brian Sandoval and is scheduled to meet again Sept. 15.

The Campus Improvement Authority Board, which is expected to reschedule a meeting prior to the next SNTIC meeting, was expected to discuss asking the Legislature to extend its life through Sept. 30, 2019, from the current Sept. 30, 2017, expiration; seeking UNLV’s role if an off-campus stadium is built; considering alternatives if the stadium bid fails; and determining whether UNLV would be financially hurt if a new stadium decreases the number of events staged at UNLV-operated Sam Boyd Stadium.

The family of Sheldon Adelson, Majestic Realty and the Raiders are partnering to develop a stadium recommendation to Sandoval and the Legislature.
